Towing: breakdown

Before carrying out any towing, set the gearbox to NN position (see "Automatic gearbox" in Section 2), unlock the steering column then release the parking brake (see "Electronic parking brake" in Section 2).
If the gearbox cannot be set to position N, please contact an Authorised Dealer.
Steering column unlocking
With the "hands-free" card in the passenger compartment, press the engine start button (without pressing the brake pedal in order not to start the engine) or, depending on the vehicle, insert the remote control card in the reader (refer to "Starting, stopping the engine" in Section 2).
The steering column unlocks and the accessory functions are powered: you can use the vehicle's lights (direction indicators, brake lights, etc.). At night the vehicle must have its lights on.
Once you have finished towing, lock the vehicle using the card (refer to "Card: general information, use" and "Hands-free card: use" in Section 1) to avoid the risk of the battery discharging.
With the ignition switched off, the gearbox is no longer lubricated. Transport the vehicle on a flatbed lorry.
In exceptional circumstances you may tow it with all four wheels on the ground, forwards only, with the gearbox in neutral N position, over a maximum distance of 50 miles (80 km) and not exceeding a speed of 16 mph (25 km/h).
The speed specified by current legislation for towing must always be observed.
WARNING
Leave the "hands-free card" in the vehicle or, depending on the vehicle, do not remove the remote control card from the reader while the vehicle is being towed.
Risk of the steering column locking.
Only use the front towing point 2
(never use the drive shafts or any other part of the vehicle).
This towing point may only be used for pulling. It must never be used for lifting the vehicle directly or indirectly.
WARNING
When the engine is stopped, steering and braking assistance are no longer provided.

Access to the towing point

Press zone A and maintain the pressure while pulling on zone Bto open the flap 4.
Tighten the towing eye 3 to the maximum: first by hand until it stops, then finish by locking it using the wheelbrace.
Only use the towing eye 3 (refer to the information on "Tools" in Section 5).
WARNING
Ensure that the towing eye is bolted correctly.
Risk of losing the towed object.
WARNING
Do not leave the tools unsecured inside the vehicle as they may be projected during braking.
WARNING
  • Use a rigid tow bar.
  • a vehicle must not be towed if it is not fit to be driven.
  • avoid accelerating or braking suddenly when towing, as this may result in damage being caused to the vehicle.
  • In any case, it is advisable not to exceed 16 mph (25 km/h).
